Zano is coming to BTCPay Server: what it means, and where you want to spend ZANO next

Hey everyone,

We have some exciting news to share: Zano is being integrated with BTCPay Server. Once it's live, any merchant running BTCPay will be able to accept ZANO, as well as Confidential Assets issued on Zano, alongside the other payment options they already offer. Before it lands, we want to explain what BTCPay is, why this matters, and get your input on where you'd most like to see Zano accepted.

What is BTCPay Server?

BTCPay Server is a free, open-source payment processor that merchants run themselves. Think of it as a self-hosted alternative to services like Stripe or PayPal, except it's built for crypto and there's no company in the middle.

Here's what makes it different from most payment processors:

• No middleman. Payments go directly from the customer to the merchant's own wallet. BTCPay never holds anyone's funds.
• No processing fees. Since it's open-source software rather than a paid service, merchants don't pay a percentage on every sale.
• No permission needed. Merchants don't sign up for an account or get approved by anyone. They install it and start accepting payments.
• Plugs into what merchants already use. BTCPay connects with popular e-commerce platforms, offers a point-of-sale app for physical stores, and supports invoices, payment buttons, and crowdfunding pages.

BTCPay Server has become a go-to choice for merchants and organizations who want to accept crypto without giving up control. That includes online shops, privacy-focused services, nonprofits, creators, and more.

ZANO and Confidential Assets

The integration doesn't stop at ZANO itself. Merchants will also be able to accept Confidential Assets, which are tokens issued directly on the Zano blockchain.

One example is FUSD, a private stablecoin on Zano. It lets you send dollar-denominated value without anyone knowing how much, to whom, or when.

Why this matters for Zano

BTCPay and Zano share the same core philosophy: you should be in control of your own money, and nobody should be able to block, freeze, or watch your payments.

This integration is a big step for Zano adoption for a few reasons:

1. Instant access to an existing merchant network. Instead of convincing merchants one by one to build a custom integration, every BTCPay merchant will have a straightforward path to adding Zano to their checkout.
2. Private payments at checkout. Whether a customer pays in ZANO or a Confidential Asset, the transaction is private by default. That's a meaningful upgrade over paying on a transparent blockchain where anyone can trace purchase history.
3. Stable pricing without giving up privacy. Price volatility is one of the biggest reasons merchants hesitate to accept crypto. With Confidential Assets like FUSD, customers can pay in a dollar-pegged asset and merchants can receive a predictable amount, with the same privacy as ZANO.
4. Real-world utility. A currency becomes more valuable the more places you can actually use it. This integration grows the number of places where ZANO and Zano-based assets can be spent, building on existing merchant tools like the WooCommerce plugin, CoinRemitter, the Zano Pay Widget, and the in-store payments already live at 100+ SPAR stores in Switzerland.
5. Merchant-friendly and non-custodial. This lines up perfectly with how Zano's other merchant tools already work: funds go straight to the merchant, with no third party holding them.

Now we want to hear from you

This is where the community comes in. We want to reach out to merchants and services that already use BTCPay Server and encourage them to enable Zano once the integration is ready.

Which service, store, or product that accepts payments through BTCPay would you most like to pay for with Zano?

It could be anything: a VPN or hosting provider, an online store you shop at regularly, a privacy tool, a creator or project you support, a local business near you, or something else entirely.

When you reply, it helps a lot if you include:

• The name of the service or merchant
• A link, if you have one
• Why you'd use Zano there (how often you'd pay, why privacy matters for that purchase, etc.)
• Whether you'd pay in ZANO, FUSD, or another Confidential Asset

The most-requested suggestions will help us prioritize outreach. And if you run a business that uses BTCPay yourself, let us know! We'd love to talk.

The Gateway Address Vulnerability: What Happened and What Comes Next

Zano network update: Recovery solution for Gateway Address vulnerability

The core team has identified a serious issue involving Gateway Addresses, which enabled unauthorized ZANO and fUSD to enter circulation.

Our investigation has found no compromise of wallet spend keys or ordinary transaction privacy. Zano core consensus is unaffected.

The team has developed a solution to eliminate all unauthorized activity with a coordinated network upgrade. To ensure full network integrity, the Zano blockchain has been restarted from block height 3,833,000, immediately prior to Hard Fork 6. This affects approximately one month of chain history. The recovery requires participating nodes, miners, stakers, and services to adopt the update.

We are relaunching services such as the mobile wallet node and the wrap service one by one. It is up to each third-party wallet, exchange, and service to update on their own behalf. Before sending funds to or from any of them, check that they have moved to the recovered chain.

Transactions confirmed during the affected period are not part of the recovered chain. Keep transaction IDs and trade records, and do not resend a payment until you have updated your wallet and checked its final status on the recovered chain.

If you run a full node, mine, stake, operate a pool, or provide exchange, bridge, or payment services, please install the emergency release as soon as possible. Use only zano.org/wallets or the official GitHub releases page, and verify the published checksums. Ordinary wallet users can now download the updated wallet from our website as well. Seed phrases are not required to perform this upgrade.

This update removes all unauthorized activity from Zano's chain. It cannot affect payments already settled in USDT, DAI, or other assets on separate networks. The team is working with affected projects and counterparties to account for any losses and will publish the reimbursement and claims process.

Real people and businesses have been affected. We intend for the community to be made whole throughout this process. Certain community members have already pledged support to ensure that assets are restored.

Pushing innovation carries risk, and this is a clear example. Serious incidents have occurred elsewhere: Bitcoin recovered from an exploited supply bug and chain reorganization in 2010; Zcash recently patched a potential counterfeiting flaw before any known exploitation; and Ethereum made an exceptional state change after the DAO attack. Each case was different, and none diminishes the harm here. We will publish the technical cause, the results of reviewing adjacent Gateway Address code, and the criteria for safely resuming activity. Confidence must be earned through that work, and the team is committed to working with the community to deliver on these efforts.

Security update and coordinated upgrade:

The core team has identified a vulnerability in public Gateway Addresses that affects asset issuance, including fUSD.

Transaction privacy is unaffected, and no spend keys or wallets are compromised.

We will coordinate a network upgrade asap. It requires majority consensus to activate, so we ask node operators, pools, and exchanges to be ready to update. No action is needed from ordinary users beyond upgrading when the release is published.

User balances are safe. We will resolve any discrepancies due to the Gateway Addresses. The core team is currently working with all of our partners.

️ SCAM ALERT: Fake Zano wallet site ️

A community member has reported a fake site posing as the official Zano wallet: zanowallet[.]io

It is NOT affiliated with Zano.

According to the report, the site offers a Windows installer that looks almost identical to the real wallet, but running it installs a remote access trojan (RAT). This gives attackers control of your computer, including your screen, keystrokes (passwords and seed phrases), microphone, and webcam.

Only download Zano wallets from:
• zano.org/wallets
• github.com/hyle-team/zano/releases
• The official iOS App Store and Google Play listings, or the Android APK linked from zano.org

Stay safe:
• Type zano.org directly or use a bookmark. Don't trust search results or ads.
• Verify downloads against the SHA256 hashes in our GitHub release notes.
• Only whitelist zano.exe in your antivirus if it came from an official source and the hash matches.
• Never share your seed phrase or enter it on a website.

If you ran the installer from that site:
Assume your computer is compromised. From a separate, clean device, create a new Zano wallet with a new seed phrase and move your funds immediately. Change your important passwords from that clean device too, and wipe and reinstall your operating system on the infected one.

I've seen people have had issues buying and selling Zano lately. Here's where $ZANO and $FUSD are available right now

MEXC introduced mandatory KYC last year, and lately swap providers have lost access to the MEXC API they sourced $ZANO liquidity from. Many routes stopped working overnight. Here's an overview of the options that remain:

No KYC required:

WizardSwap (wizardswap.io) : no KYC. Supports swaps from BTC, ETH, XMR, DASH, and LTC to $ZANO.

Godex (godex.io) : no KYC by default, though larger swaps may trigger verification.

ZanoX (zanox.io/buy-zano) : no KYC. Apart from many assets, it supports stablecoin swaps such as USDT, USDC, and USDS.

FreedomSwap (freedomswap.com) : no KYC, deep liquidity, supports $100k+ swaps. Swaps 45+ Ethereum assets (incl. USDT/USDC) to $FUSD, Zano's private stablecoin. $FUSD can then be swapped to $ZANO at freedomdollar.com (max $2,500 per swap).

OurBit (ourbit.com/exchange/ZANOUSDT) : no KYC. Mirrors MEXC liquidity. Most user-friendly option. May be restricted in some regions.

KYC required:

MEXC (mexc.com) : currently the deepest $ZANO order book.

AlchemyPay (alchemypay.org) : fiat on-ramp supporting debit and credit card purchases.

Whatever the route, self-custody is the final step: $ZANO's privacy applies once it's in your own wallet.

Significant changes to solve this dependency on centralized exchanges once and for all are on the way.

THORChain is committed to integrating $ZANO. Maya Protocol and Near Intents options remain on the table.

Once the Zano Execution Layer is live, $ZANO can be bridged to our ZEL EVM chain, Ethereum, and Base. This means users can buy wrapped $ZANO on Uniswap and other DEXes that use liquidity pools, accessible permissionlessly and without KYC.

Swap providers could source liquidity from there, and their issues will be solved for good.

We are in talks with swap partners, such as Exolix, to bring $ZANO & $FUSD swaps back to their platforms. We're temporarily unavailable there because MEXC recently changed its policy for swap providers, and they can no longer access it for liquidity. We're working with them actively to provide alternatives.

@ketone-0 all of them. The only current issue that still exists is Apple needing to approve the new Zano mobile wallet in their App Store.

This would be great, it would even make sense for Freedom Dollar themselves to facilitate this.

We'd love to see this as well, but most of the above-mentioned services are heavily regulated and won't integrate privacy coins like Zano. Once $ZANO goes cross-chain, we have a decent chance of integrating Wrapped Zano on their services.

This won't change in the next few days. Hard fork 6 lays the groundwork for the changes we want. THORChain devs need to commit to integrating us, and we need to launch ZEL (Zano Execution Layer) first before $ZANO goes cross-chain.

@ketone-0 I'm hoping the THORChain pool for native $ZANO, and the Uniswap pool on Ethereum for wrapped $ZANO will both be deep enough to take away any liquidity issues. They should serve as the 'main' liquidity sources. Additionally, we're hoping to get on NEAR Intents with decent liquidity as well, and achieve numerous tier-1 exchange listings via wrapped $ZANO.

All in all, I expect volumes and liquidity to improve significantly after THORChain integration and launch of ZEL.

I understand people's concerns and hope these insights and comments are valuable:

1. Since Zano is a hybrid PoW/PoS blockchain, users would rather stake their coins instead of trading. This naturally results in thinner liquidity.

2. Not all liquidity is on the order books; as the price moves, new orders appear.

3. Users can sell ZANO for fUSD through the Freedom Dollar website with $5000 USD per sell, and can repeat this as many times as they like. fUSD can be swapped 1:1 for USDT/USDC, also through that same website, or through exchanges they're supported on. https://www.freedomdollar.com/en

4. You can swap a whole 1 BTC for about 6500 ZANO through https://www.wizardswap.io/

As you can see, there are plenty of ways to swap decent sizes of ZANO both ways without moving the price too much. That said, there is plenty of room for improvement, and after HF6 this will happen through listings on DEXes like THORChain where we'll make sure there will be decent liquidity as well.
